(Online Course through NHI)


The NHI courses require some work to access. These instructions will help access NHI courses. (You may want to print them.)

To get Road Scholar Credit

After you have completed the course, you will be able to print a certificate of completion. Simply mail or fax a copy to Utah LTAP along with the email address you used to register on the Utah LTAP website (so we can credit the right person).

To Create an Account on the NHI Website

  1. (Go to the NHI website:
  2. Click Login (near top).
  3. In the NEW USER box, put your email address, (indicate whether or not you are an FHWA employee,) and click "Register Now".
  4. Accept the terms and conditions by checking the box under the terms, and the click "Submit".
  5. Note the strict password rules (click password rules) when making a new password. Also note that NHI will require a password change every 60 days.
  6. When you have all the required information entered, click the button at the bottom. If all is filled in properly, you'll be assigned a username. Be sure to keep it.
  7. You'll end up on the "My Profile" page; which looks exactly like the registration page. You are now logged in.

Taking an NHI Course Online

  1. Click the "NHI Course Link" (above, right) to go directly to the course on the NHI website.
  2. Click "Add To Cart".
  3. (Log in on the NHI site if you are not already logged in.)
  4. Click "Checkout" from the menu at the top of the page.
  5. A verification page showing the course you've requested will be shown.
  6. Click "Continue".
  7. Confirm your email address (again).
  8. Click "Submit".
  9. Click "Confirm". (You will also receive an email "receipt" for the course.)
  10. Click the "My Training" link at the top of the page.
  11. Click the "Launch" link next to the course you wish to take.
  12. You will now be taken to the actual course modules. On the left, all modules are listed. On the right, partway down the page, you will see "Next Suggested Item". A module will be listed there; this is generally the module you should click on.
  13. When you have completed a course, you should print the certificate and email it (or fax it) to Utah LTAP to receive credit for the Road Scholar program.
