Description
Length: 4 hours
The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) presents the fundamental principles involved with work zone temporary traffic control (TTC). One of the primary concerns in developing TTCPs is providing information in a clear and concise manner, such that it facilitates appropriate road user response in an atypical traffic environment. While the MUTCD includes a series of 46 "typical" applications, there are a myriad of unique circumstances that may arise in practice. The Wayne State University-Transportation Research Group (WSU-TRG) has developed a series of training programs aimed at providing expanded breadth and depth of coverage on several important aspects of work zone traffic control:
- Utility Work Zones
- Urban Work Zones
- Short-Term, Short Duration and Mobile Work Zones
- Temporary Traffic Control Plan Selection Software & Compendium of Documents
Wayne State University has developed a series of training programs and decision-support tools to assist those involved in work zone activities. These materials provide important guidance aimed at providing safe and efficient operations, specific to utility, short-term/short-duration/mobile, and urban work zones. A national train-the-trainer program is being implemented across the country to expose these tools to the practitioner.
The Utah LTAP Center's involvement is the conduit for exposing our locals to these valuable tools. You will be amazed at the versatility of the software and the ease of selecting state-specific standards and guidelines to suit your agencies individual needs.
