About the Course: Geotextiles are used in a variety of applications on our nation=s roadways. Participants in this workshop will learn how to design and install geotextiles. Emphasis will be on drainage and erosion control systems, geotextiles to enhance the stability of both a paved and unpaved roadway, and the use of fabrics in pavement over lays. In addition, the various types of fabrics and their proper application will be discussed. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to discuss the use of geotextile with industry experts and to share their experience with their peers and colleagues. About the Instructor: Dr. Barry R. Christopher is a independent geotechnical engineering consultant specializing in geosynthetics application and design. He has authored numerous technical publications including the 1998 FHWA Geosynthetics Design and Construction Guidelines. Dr. Christopher has over 20 years of geotechnical engineering experience and is a registered Professional Engineer in six states. Course Outline Section 1: Introduction and Review of Basic Design Concepts Section 2: Geotextiles in Drainage and Erosion Control Systems Section 3: Geotextiles in Roads Section 4: Fabrics in Pavement Overlays WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Street superintendents, Road Foremen, construction supervisors, project inspectors, public works directors, and design engineers will all benefit from attending this workshop. It is designed to provide practical information to both the designer and the installer for applications on state and local streets/roads.
