    With the ever increasing demand for work zone traffic control and flagger training, the Utah Tē Center has partnered with ATSSA to co-sponsor their Traffic Control Technician, Traffic Control Supervisor & Flagger Instructor Training.

    Successful participants--those who complete all three courses and obtain certification--will be able to serve their agency as on-site instructors for work zone traffic control and flagging.Traffic Control Technician (TCT)The one-day course covers the following:

    • standards

      fundamental principles

      components of a temporary traffic control zone

      device specifications (signs, arrow displays, channeling devices, warning lights)

      tapers

      installation

      removal

      special considerations

    • certification exam

    A student receiving an 80% or greater on the final exam will pass the course and receive a certificate of completion and registration in the national database, accessible by the internet.Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS)This two-day course covers the following:

    • traffic control standards (manuals, fundamental principles, devices, components)

      plan reading

      the driver

      driver considerations

      the typical project (planning, design, inspection)

    • liability discussion

    A student receiving an 80% or greater on the final exam will pass the course and receive a certificate of completion.In order to become certified, the student must:

    • Have passed the WZTC course and passed the TCT & TCS courses

      4000 hours (2 years) of work zone experience

      Have ATSSA flagger training (or equivalent)--students have 6 months from date of TCS course to obtain this training

      Provide at least one reference to verify experience

    • Be approved by the ATSSA Certification Board

    Certified TCS students will receive (certification is good for 4 years):

    • Certification Card

      Certification Patch

      Registration in National Database, accessible by the internet.

    •  

    Flagger Instructor Training (FIT)This two-day course covers the following:

    • instructor requirements,

      explanation of instructor agreement and other forms,

      principles of adult learning,

      basic presentation skills and techniques,

      course preparation,

      course delivery,

      review of instructor's guide,

      complete participants presentations,

      flagging demonstrations, and

    • certification exam

    A student receiving 80% or greater on the final exam will receive a certificate of completion, a flagger instructor card and registration in the national database, accessible by the internet.

    In addition, students must complete and pass the Worksite Traffic Supervisor or the Traffic Control Technician and Traffic Control Supervisor training course with an 80% or better within 6 months of the FIT training.
