The objective of this project is to implement SHRP Superpave technologies at the local highway agency and low volume state and county road level.

    Activities include:

    • Organize a technical working group
    • Coordinate work with the Rocky Mountain Asphalt User/Producer Group
    • Develop standard binder and asphalt mix design criteria
    • Evaluate mixes using SHRP protocol level 1
    • Select and coordinate construction of experimental pavement sections
    • Coordinate periodic condition surveys
    • Prepare summary design & construction reports
    • Prepare condition survey and performance reports
    • Prepare final reports

The targeted benefits from this study are major cost savings at the local and state level and better service to the traveling public. These are due to longer lasting flexible pavements.

This technology will be tailored to the specific needs of local agencies and a system of asphalt mixes will be developed and evaluated to achieve the targeted benefits.
