Moving Safely Across America CD-ROM Available

from On the Move, Summer (June) Quarter 1999, Volume 12, Number 2

The Moving Safely Across America CD-ROM is a spin-off product from the popular Moving Safely Across America Kiosk. This CD-ROM is an interactive program that focuses on highway safety issues.

Using a full complement of multimedia such as digital video and 3-D animation, important safety issues can now be brought to the attention of the public in a way that is more engaging than the traditional driver's-ed materials. Users can interact with and experience various aspects of highway safety, as well as test their understanding of these topics. The program consists of three separate modules:

  1. Road Trip. A virtual journey where users encounter different situations where they must make decisions about highway safety.
  2. Road Challenge. A fast-paced game where users must answer questions about highway safety in order to earn safety miles.
  3. Safety Stops. A database of facts where users can discover more topics such as "sharing the road with others," and "the future of highway safety."

The Utah T² Center expects to receive 25 copies of this CD-ROM for use by local agencies (including schools) by the time you receive this newsletter. They can be borrowed for a two month period after which the agency will need to complete an evaluation form to help determine if such programs and products are useful. We will then pass this information along to the manufacturer. If you are interested, please call us (1-800-822-8878)!
