September 1998

Dear Utah T² Center Consumers,

Due to the recent passage of the TEA 21 federal legislation and the budget cuts to the Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) that the legislation mandated, our 1998 operating budget has been reduced. Because of this, the funds we use to provide training for local Utah agencies have been tightened. What this means for the consumer is that we will need to have a more centralized and standardized training schedule in order to meet the needs of our consumers while remaining within our budget. Here's what you can do to help us stretch those dollars and give you the most "bang for your buck."

Plan Ahead. Don't wait till you need the training. Think now about your training needs through December 31, 1998. Then contact the Utah T² Center and we'll put you on the calendar.

Coordinate Training in Your Area with Other Agencies. If you are a city, don't forget to check with your county counterparts on their training needs and vice versa. We need to have at least 20-30 people attend a training at a given site and not every city or county has that many to train. Calls from coordinating agencies will be given the highest priority.

Help Us Find A Location. If you need training and have a room or facility available in your agency (conference room, training room, etc.) schedule it for us. That saves on long distance charges and trying to track down who we need to talk to. If you are coordinating with another agency in the area, check out the availability of any training facilities they may have.

Use E-mail and the Web. If you want to contact us, use e-mail or the web. This service is free to us through the university. We're on-line during business hours and will be able to respond quickly to your needs.

Thank you for your patience and willingness to work closely with us during this time of budget cuts. We want to maintain our current level of service despite the difficulties imposed by our budget!

Sincerely yours,

Doyt Y. Bolling, P.E.
